Smart Detection of Gas Leakage and Alerting Using IoT

Abstract :

Every day, we deal with numerous amounts of gases, be it Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, and whatnot. Some are helpful for us; some are necessities for us while some are meant to be handled with caution. We are here to discuss the gases that can be hazardous to human lives, such as Petroleum Gases like butane and propane or Natural Gases such as methane. With the Increasing amount of usage of such gases, it is our responsibility that we should use it for our assistance. The System, we are using, would be really helpful to monitor the presence of leakage of any sort of gases. It will come in handy for the safety of the lives and the hazards that can occur due to accidental leaks of any sort of gas present in the house. We have designed a system that will alert and notifies us using the IoT about the leakage so that we can take control action about it. Since Petroleum Gas and Natural Gas are highly volatile and Inflammable, this safety system will help us to take necessary action which will help to avoid any kind of explosion. For this, a Buzzer is placed that will kick at the moment, it detects any sort of gas leakage. The MQ9 Sensor installed in the System will detect the essence of any kind of gases such as propane, butane, methane, etc. The Sensor is very sensitive to such inflammable gases. Arduino UNO has been used here in this system, the leakage is being detected by the Arduino itself, which in turn turns the LCD Display and Buzzer as a safety measure.
