Kamble, Mayur P. Thakre, Twinkle S. Ladhe Abstract : The abundance of waste plastics today is due to their economic value, easy availability, lightweight, durability, and energy efficiency. However, their disposal via landfilling or incineration is not eco-friendly and can lead to health issues like breast cancer, reproductive problems, and genital abnormalities. An alternative use for waste plastics is needed, and using them in road laying has emerged as a solution. In this study, waste plastic bags were used to enhance the physical properties of bitumen and bituminous mixes. The waste plastic is melted and mixed with bitumen, which is then added to heated aggregates. This process results in a mix with higher tensile strength, fatigue strength, and Marshall stability, and lower penetration value. The study concludes that using waste plastics in road construction can save bitumen and reduce environmental impact. The use of waste materials as replacements for non-renewable products is becoming more common, and the Indian Road Congress has approved the use of plastic waste in road construction. Studies have shown that plastic roads exhibit increased resistance to deformation, improved toughness, durability, fatigue life, stability, and strength, while also reducing water-induced damages and saving bitumen.
